That was a fun movie—”Men in Black.” The reason why? It’s something many probably wouldn’t have caught given the entertainment value of blowing up aliens and shooting down spaceships with big guns, not to mention a space cockroach wearing a human skin suit. Weird stuff. But you had to have been blown away by the ending of the film when our galaxy, the Milky Way, expanded into that same little ‘jewel’ around Orion’s neck (Orion was the cat in the movie, by the way), which these giant aliens were playing with in a big bag of marbles! Talk about existentialism. As if our planet Earth is a small speck in this massive alien’s galactic playground.
Well, Microsoft isn’t far from that, at least from a metaphoric standpoint. They’ve transcended the latest rage in technology many would call ‘tablet’, as in the iPad from Apple. You know the iPad, right? Everyone does these days. It’s basically a tablet-sized touch-screen computer. Forget the keyboard and sitting at a desk. But that’s beside the point; Microsoft has indeed come up with something greater (not in size, though).
So everyone’s into the whole tablet technology? Try a hard drive and tower configured to fit a minuscule, thin, microchip! That’s one of the newest products unveiled at the Consumers Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Microsoft didn’t go into too much detail other than to say they call it the SoC (System on a Chip). You’re basically putting all your major computer components onto this little chip, which could then fit into a tablet-like device.
Talk about the scope of that technology! They’ve essentially shrunk the computer to fit anywhere. With anything. They’ve become that godlike alien playing with the “galaxy” marbles during the finale of “Men in Black.” Pretty remarkable! Even the Men in Black with their Series 4 De-Atomizers and Noisy Crickets would be impressed.
No word as to the release of the SoC technology, but rest assured, we’ll see it soon.
