Technology has grown and changed so much over the past few decades. There are many tasks handled by computers that had previously seemed impossible. Because of this, there is a debate about technology possibly taking over jobs which could lead to a job shortage in the future. While this is a valid concern, there are many reasons why this will never happen to the degree that it causes widespread panic.
There are many jobs that will never be able to be done by computers as well as they could by a person. Jobs that require creativity, for instance, will not be able to be duplicated by a machine. A computer can write a well crafted book or essay, but it will never have the personal touches that something written by a real person has. Another task that computers fail at is customer service. Customer service is all about feelings. A computer would have a certain set of rules that it followed and would never deviate from those, this would result in many unhappy customers.
Another major reason that computers will never fully replace a human workforce is that we won’t allow it to happen. Even though computers may be cheaper, we will not allow them to fully take over all aspects of certain tasks because we as humans want to have some control over what is happening. Humans will always be needed to supervise what is going on with the computers themselves.
Finally, the government will step in and keep computers from taking over many jobs if it becomes necessary. It is vital for our economy that there are jobs available for the population. If too many jobs are being filled by machines, the government will enact laws that prohibit machines from filling certain roles. Because of these reasons and others, the thought of losing our jobs to computers should not be a major worry for people today.
